How Does it Work?
1: Initial Phone Call
If you are stuck in a disagreement with someone and can’t see a way forward, or if you would like a neutral person to help guide a difficult conversation, mediation is a good option.
The first step is for both people to agree to consider mediation and schedule a free phone call with me. During that call, I will answer your questions and explain the process. Afterward, you can decide whether you would like to move forward.
Each call lasts around 15 minutes.
2: Pre-Mediation Meeting
Next, there is an individual meeting with each person—either in person, by phone, or on Zoom—where you can speak openly and confidentially about what is happening from your point of view.
This confidential conversation is an important step. It helps the process run more smoothly and increases the chances of a positive outcome.
Each meeting lasts around 30 minutes.
3: The Mediation
Mediation begins by setting shared expectations around confidentiality, respectful communication, and a willingness to participate.
Each person has the opportunity to share what matters to them and to listen to the other, with the goal of truly understanding one another. Along the way, the conversation helps uncover the needs and concerns beneath the surface.
The process then moves to exploring possible paths forward and considering which options best support those needs. Depending on what needs to be resolved, this step may take up to half a day or more. Sessions can take place in person or on Zoom.
